I love the Kinsey Sicks! We went to see them Sunday night. I’ve seen them four times now and have all five of their albums.

Gorge revisited
January 14th, 2009 · No Comments
I first saw Gorge as a video at the In and Out show at PS 1 a couple of years ago. On Friday night, Nayland Blake restaged Gorge at Location One in NYC, but this time with audience participation and it was as much about the audience members than anything else. The piece was an hour long. Here’s a few snippets that I strung together.
There are two really good reviews of the performance on the net, both with more photos: Updownacross and Thor.

Things I Loathe #7 (in no apparent order)
January 13th, 2009 · 2 Comments

I hate the crunch of salt under my boots when I walk around NYC. What is with all the salt? At the first hint of snow, people are out there spreading salt in huge quantities on the sidewalks. Salt is supposed to be for helping to break up packed ice. It is not a substitute for shoveling snow. It should be used sparingly.
All this salt is bad for our environment. The water run-off goes into the ground, pollutes our soil and kills our plants and trees. Salt corrodes and damages our streets and sidewalks. Salt ruins my boots and upsets my bootblacks. Salt hurts dogs’ paws when they go out for their walks.

Daddy Derrick and Son Chris in the prime spot at The Ramrod
A well-laid out leather bar has a good flow. That means you can walk around in a circuit-like manner to see and be seen. The Ramrod with its outdoor patio has a good flow. The other thing a well-laid out leather bar has is certain spots where you can perch while the flow moves around you. Every bar has its prime spots. Your stance, how you hold your beer bottle, how you smoke your cigar, etc are also important to how to cruise in a leather bar.

Check out page 90 of Hot Spots Magazine to see me at the Leatherwerks party!
Unzipped interviews Larry Barat about this year’s MAL. And there’s a couple of cute photos of a some of my NYboL buddies. By the way, I had planned on going to MAL this year, but the hotel rates just were too high. We’re going to a weekend party in Boston instead. I’ll be at MAL in 2010.

Postcards From The Edge
January 11th, 2009 · No Comments

Today I went to the 11th annual Postcards From The Edge event which is a fundraiser for Visual AIDS. It is a one-day event where about 1500 artists each donate a postcard-sized piece of art. They are signed on the back. You can pick any piece on the wall and buy it for $75. But you can’t look to see who the artist is. Some of the artists are very famous and some are not. It’s a crapshoot whose work you get, but it makes you really look and pick a piece that you like.

This is Katie, the volunteer who took down the piece I bought. Note her archival cotton glove.

This is the postcard that I chose. It is by Peter J. Ketchum. I am going to write him and tell him about this post!

Dance me to the end of love

Fix your life in 2009.
ABC News reports on MAL weekend leading into the inauguration. Obama will most likely not attend MAL.
CARAS is looking for people to write some brief comments and relate stories of their experience in therapy, around their BDSM sexuality. It’s for their next newsletter article, which will have the theme of Therapy and Mental Health as it relates to BDSM/fetish/kink sexualities. In particular, they are looking for 2-3 submissions, each one about 200 words in length. Send submissions to CARAS newsletter editor, David Stephenson.
I have never been to any of the Chemistry parties, and after being introduced to the guy that runs them at last night’s Pleasure Salon, I have absolutely no interest in ever going.
The economy is in the crapper, but the NY Times reports that people are buying more sex toys!
