Lolita Wolf's Predictions & Predilections

I have not written much about my trip to Washington, DC. The excuse to travel was a Mummification class I taught at Black Rose and that went really well. It was nice seeing some old friends and new faces, too. I stayed with the Bitch of Dupont Circle and we were pretty darn lazy. We did make it to The Phillips Collection but not much else. Like I said we were lazy: we slept, we ate watermelon and we played.

We did walk over to my favorite restaurant/bookstore: Kramers & Afterwords. We met up for dinner with Peggy Sue, Schelli, Glenda and Levi. We had some sharzies and I had the delicious lamb chops with curried potatoes and an asparagus concoction. I love their food.

I also bought a book called “All About Scabs” by Genichiro Yagyu. No, this is not about workers crossing picket lines. It is another book in the My Body Science series which includes “Everyone Poops” and “The Gas We Pass.” I love these books and I am on my way to collecting the whole set.

“I’m glad that I passed the review,” said Don Quixote.
I laughed, “Well, in six months there’s going be one-year review.”
“Uh-oh…”
I laughed some more.

But really this review is more about me than him. I made all these lifestyle changes and I need to step back and look at it and see if it is working for me. I’m not normally given to a lot of processing, but sometimes it’s a good thing to do, even when, or especially when, a relationship is not in crisis.

It’s about having no expectations. That can be quite liberating. It allows me to just “be in the moment” and not worry about where a relationship is going. Like it doesn’t need to go anywhere. I can just relax and enjoy it.

However, I am not truly without any expectations. I do expect mutual caring. I do expect that I can allow myself to be vulnerable and not get damaged. I am getting what I need: trust and intimacy. And, of course, great sex. And fun, too!

We were out having afternoon tea. It’s not an activity that was usual for Jefferson and me. On only one date have we ventured beyond the bedroom, and that was for a cheeseburger after sex. This was like a special occasion.

Ordering tea for two is extremely complicated. The tea list is huge and then we have to decide what flavor scones to share and what sandwiches to share and what dessert to share. I laughed, “This is the most negotiating that we have ever done.” Luckily, he seemed to like what I like.

We had lots to talk about. All sorts of things. And then, I told him that we’ve passed the six month mark in our relationship.
“Wow, it’s been six months already?”
“Yup, And I’ve been thinking about if this relationship has been working for me.”
“Like a review? A performance review?”
“Yes.”

He squirmed a bit in his chair. I think he was a bit shocked. “Really?”
“Yes, I made a big change six months ago and I need to evaluate how it’s working for me. I started with three fuckbuddy relationships and now I am down to two.”
“Three? Who’s the third?”
“Dude and Dudette. That didn’t work out.”
“Oh, yeah, right.” He paused, “So, what about me?”
“Oh, I want to continue with you. But you’re not getting a raise or anything,” I grinned.
He laughed, “Maybe next review.”

And then there were other things to talk about.

When I heard about the Sex Workers Art Show, I told my friend Dominic. He submitted a couple of pieces and they were accepted. I am very excited about this and will be going to the opening on Tuesday. Here are the details:

In $pread magazine’s second annual art show, sex workers with an artistic bent step up and tell their stories visually. The show includes art by Zak Smith, Genevive Zacconi, and Vena Virago, in addition to illustrations and photographs that have appeared in $pread magazine, as well as a special opening night exhibition of hand-decorated dildos by sex workers.
