I went to the release party for Sex in the Public Square on Friday night. It was teeming with NYC’s sex-blogerati. Had a great time seeing my buddies and meeting some new people. There were readings and performances. Author Veronica Vera stole the show with her tale about meeting and posing for Robert Mapplethorpe and then later selling some of the prints. That lady sure knows how to tell a story.

On Saturday I went to LSM‘s Naked (or Not) Beach Outing to Jacob Riis Beach. I was surprised at how close this was. It’s a subway ride followed by a bus ride all on a $2 Metrocard fare. It’s a pretty nice beach, the waves were high enough for surfers, and there is a section where we could go topless. I was entertained by watching some fierce beach wrestling matches during LSM’s first annual beach wrestling match.

Sunday was a birthday dim sum. Very fun.

The weekend also had two dates with two fuckbuddies. I haven’t talked much about one of them because I needed to come up with a blog name for her. I think I’ll call her Moxie.

I didn’t really have a whole lot to say about IBARW, but then I read about the hate mail that Midori received. It’s based in hate that has been handed down from another generation. How easily we can continue the hate.

My family was torn apart during WWII. My grandparents were murdered in the camps. As a young girl, my mother was forced to work in a factory on dangerous machines. I can go on further about the injustices and horror stories of my family’s past. It’s nightmarish. I was taught to never forget. Forgive, but never forget. It’s difficult to forgive.

I remember having to go to Germany on a business trip and how that freaked my family out at first. In the end, they were all okay with my going. I went and braced myself for the unexpected, but I kept an open mind. The Germans I met were genuine and warm to me. I was able to speak the language and they asked me how I knew it to speak it so well. I told them of my background and they were all cool. This was a new generation of people and they also had to live with their history. We got to know each other and we liked and respected each other.

I don’t want to be ruled by my family’s history. Did it impact my life? Yes, it did. I carry some of the scars of their experience. I always will. But I also want to see people as individuals and not as a race or nationality. I don’t want to blame somebody for something that they never did.

This is one of my favorite fiction books. Published in 2002, I consider it a classic. It’s so much fun to read a book where the action takes place in the NYC gay leather scene. david stein knows this scene well – he was the co-founder of GMSMA back in 1981 and he’s lived it. The author takes great pains to keep the story and the action very real. The characters and the sex and bondage scenarios are absolutely plausible. I never have to stop and think, “Yeah, right, like that could never happen.” It’s all very possible. It could all very easily go down that way.

I love it on two levels. First off, it’s a great story. It delves into the relationship that develops between two leathermen in the NYC scene. Told from the bottom’s perspective, it explores all his thoughts and feelings. Matt has been around and he’s a bit jaded. His fears and insecurities interfere with his desires. Terry, the top, also has history. They both have a bit of baggage. But they find that in so many ways they are right for each other. They both have to deal with melding the fantasy they want with the reality that they are rooted in. How realistic! Been there!

Secondly, I love this book as porn. It has one hot scene after another. Lots of great bondage. This is the book I dug out after my breakup. I needed to read hot stories to distract myself away from thinking of my ex while jerking off. So, I would retire with this book and my Hitachi and, within eight pages, any eight pages, Boom! This is my kind of porn.

It’s a big fat book of 582 pages and it still left me wanting more. So, read this for the plot and then keep it around for the hotBDSM stories.

We had tea, we were interviewed for the BBC and then we partook in a bit of the English Vice!

The NYC Perverts’ Saloon met again last Sunday. It was a special get-together with a crew from Nobles Gate shooting footage for BBC. Most of us did not show our faces. We discussed about why we blog about sex in such intimate and often graphic ways, why so many sex bloggers are anonymous, how sex bloggers are harbingers of social change, why there is a gender imbalance of sex bloggers and more. It was a lively discussion amongst friends. Even the idea that there is a community of sex bloggers that meets real time was a surprise for Craig Collinson, who is heading up the project.

After the film crew left, most of us stayed behind to hang out and talk. Don’t ask how this all wound up going down, but at some point, Viviane brought out her new Heartwood flogger. And we all (Calico, Selena, Sinclair, Tess, Viviane and I) ganged up on Jefferson and took turns flogging him. He had a stupid happy grin on his face in the end.

As Jefferson had said earlier, he is quite at ease with this gender imbalance. I think he handles it with aplomb.
