John Weis: Sexual Freedom Fighter

June 22nd, 2009 · 2 Comments

At Folsom Street East, Susan Wright and I were very honored to present John Weis with a Sexual Freedom Award from GMSMA.

What the crowd looked like from the stage.

I took a photo of John and me on stage.

Susan and Sigrid

John really deserves this award. He is an active and dedicated member of the kink community and has devoted himself to S/M and politics for over two decades.

He a past president and past chairman of Gay Male S/M Activists and he is the founder and chairman emeritus of the Leather Leadership Conference. And he’s founder of Folsom Street East and he has produced 10 of the 13 fairs, including this one.

He has served on the boards of the New York City Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project and the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom Foundation.

In April 2002, he was appointed to Manhattan’s Community Board 4. He represents the interests of the over 100,000 residents of the city’s west side, from 14th Street to 60th Street, on issues related to quality of life, land use, and budget.

He has been elected to the board’s executive committee seven times and will become the board’s chairman on July 1.

Congratulation, John! You are a role model for combining sex activism and political activism.

OMG! I’m on Joe.My.God.

June 22nd, 2009 · No Comments

So, I’m backstage at Folsom Street East, waiting to get onstage to give an award to John Weis and I spot Joe.My.God.  I am a big fan of his blog.  I motion to him that he needs to come over and take my picture.  He tries to ignore me.  But I can not be ignored.  He finally comes over.

“You need to take my picture for your blog.”

He looks at me, “Uh, who are you?”

“I’m Lolita.  I comment on your blog a lot.”

“Oh, Lolita!  Yes, we’ve met before.”  This is actually true, but he was not impressed with me last time either.

But he took a cute picture of me with Spanky, Kerry and Susan backstage.  And then another one of me onstage with John.

See Joe’s Folsom Street East post with the slideshow here.

Leather Pride Night: Whew!

June 22nd, 2009 · No Comments

I can finally stop yakking about Leather Pride Night, because it happened and it rocked! The turnout was a bit smaller this year which made it more easy to navigate. However, I think the auctions did well. It will take a while to get the full numbers. I loved seeing so many people out in one place. A lot of regular folks as well as a bunch of old-timers and first-timers. It was a local crowd and a lot of people visiting from out of town. We had a great crew of volunteers to help everything run smoothly.

I bought two auction items: a print signed by The Hun and a bondage chair that was donated by the estate of my friend, Mark Stiffler. I bought $20 worth of raffle tickets and won two prizes: I chose two passes to the next Cinekink Film Festival. Yay!

LPN has a strict no camera policy. Those photos that I posted of last year’s event were shot by James, the official photographer, and he only shoots people who consent and sign a model release. I took these photos were outside the venue.

Thor and mudcub seem very happy.

Larry, Nancy and John looking shiny in their latex.

Michael and Kerry rocked the uniforms!

mudcub’s glowing drink is a strawberry egg cream.
I’ve never seen one of those!
