Dan Watkins passed away from liver cancer on Monday night. I first met Dan through Jack. He was always smiling with a big goofy grin. I liked the tattoos he had on his feet. Dan did a lot of his own leatherwork and always brought a new toy that he was excited to show us.
One time at Leather Retreat, I got injured. I wasn’t hurt very much – it was not a big deal – but Dan and his partner Barbara took me back to their cabin and fixed me up. Part of their treatment was to made me a big slushy Kahlua drink. They had ice and a blender at camp! They told me that any time I needed more of their care, I could come knocking on their cabin door.

I am so sorry to hear this. Dan & Barbara were the two most preeminent and supportive people I knew when I “came out” into the scene. They helped me through the naivete that often accompanies newbies, and were a pleasure to spend time with. I recall fondly how Dan encouraged me to play, and how he always had a joke or twenty to tell.
